Shelter is proposed by Department of Art and Art History professors Bayar and Xie. Focusing on recurring images of refugee camps in different areas of the world that have become disturbing symbols of human tragedy, this installation will be a hybrid of visionary forms inspired by the refugee settlements. The artists will explore the multiple themes of life, death, survival, and why these camps exist in a social and political context. The result will be a symbolic, complex structure accompanied by photography, text and sound. Shelter will be a collaborative effort between the artists, and also their art students, who will assist with the completion of the installation.
