Brian Alfred

Fallout

Sept. 10 – Oct. 17

Project Room

Organized by Samek Art Gallery

Fallout features a video animation, painting and collages by Brian Alfred. Alfred uses images he has painted or collaged to create digital animations, which are accompanied by electronic music. Fallout’s themes of a passively aggressive hi-tech society that seems to be nearing both disaster and utopia are shared with Alfred’s other recent work. Endless high-rises, various mass-transit vehicles, nuclear reactors and high-voltage electric wires, piles of computers and cables, and fenced landscapes are some of his landscape and still-life subjects. Strangely calm and rendered in flat and pleasing colors, Alfred takes an ambivalent position on whether his subjects are indeed representative of something positive or negative. The digital animation Overload will be projected continuously during the exhibition.
