Shahzia Sikander creates technically precise and delicate images that fuse the styles and forms of Persian and Indian miniature painting with contemporary Western imagery. Her work explores the boundaries of life and their ever-shifting nature. In this portfolio of nine prints, she combines etching and aquatint processes with digital technology and photogravure. Created in the second half of 2001, the portfolio is "an open-ended narrative" reflecting on 9/11 and its aftermath. Born in Pakistan in 1969, Sikander studied painting in Pakistan and the US. She lives and works in New York City.
