For the series, Mahanoy Plane, Richard Cramer employs the diptych format, juxtaposing color-saturated and stylized figurative paintings with large-format photographs depicting industrial ruins and their neighboring Pennsylvania towns. Multiple and complex dialogues are invoked between the contrasting panels including energy/stillness; brilliant/muted palettes; whimsical/gloomy, among others. Cramer recently retired after teaching at Tyler School of Art, Temple University in Philadelphia for 37 years. He lives and works in New York City.
