The art of our time, globally: from artists emerging nationally or internationally to influential internationally recognized artists
Group exhibitions:
investigate art, culture, and issues and themes across disciplines, solo exhibitions depth, and special projects
Historic exhibitions:
focusing on modern and contemporary art, and also art from other centuries
Programming:
Artists, critics, curators and scholars, in conjunction with exhibitions, and others that enhance the education mission of the Samek and university
Collections:
Over 5,000 objects from many cultures and from all over the globe
Strengths:
modern and contemporary works on paper, Samuel H. Kress Collection of Baroque and Renaissance art, twentieth century photographs, Japanese decorative art, historic prints
Audience:
Bucknell: students, faculty and staff across disciplines, alumni
Region: adults and students from the Central Susquehanna Valley, the cultural community from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh
Beyond: exhibitions organized by the Samek have traveled to dozens of universities and museums throughout the U.S. including New York, Chicago and Los Angeles, and to Canada and China
Facilities:
Located in the Langone Center
Facilities include 4,060 square feet Galleries, and Permanent Collection Study space: Main Gallery, Project Room, Kress Gallery, Samek Study Gallery, Permanent Collection Study Room
Additional space includes Permanent Collection storage, staff administrative offices, and work space and storage areas
Governance:
The director reports to Bucknell University’s provost/vice president of academic affairs
